Hi, I'm Kat! I'm the owner of and one of the teachers at Greenpoint Montessori. I began my Montessori career at age 3 when I attended an in-home Montessori school in Charlotte, North Carolina. I continued to attend public Montessori elementary school until 5th grade. It wasn't until decades later that I began my teaching career in the dance studio where I taught dance to hundreds of children over the years. I began to dig at my roots when I realized that I wanted to work with children in a more in-depth way, and I began my study Montessori basics at Washington Montessori Institute in Baltimore. I moved to NYC in 2013 and attended the West Side Montessori School Teacher Education Program, where I received an Early Childhood credential. I received my MEd in Early Childhood Special Education from Concordia College and hold a NY state teaching certification in Early Childhood Special Education.
When I'm not with little ones, you'll most likely find me backpacking in the woods. Fun fact: I thru-hiked the entire Appalachian Trail during 2018!
Hi, I'm Mia! I was born in Bloomington, Indiana, and have lived in New Orleans, Champaign, Prague, Chicago, and most recently Minneapolis. While in Bloomington, I attended a Montessori school from ages 4-12. After graduating from the University of Illinois, I spent 2 years in AmeriCorps as an after-school teacher. I received my AMS certificate through the Midwest Montessori Teacher Training Center in Chicago, after which, I taught as a Lead Guide for 6 years in Minneapolis. My husband and I live right here in Greenpoint! I love dancing, reading, cooking, taking care of my plants and spending time with my family.
Hi, I’m Devon! I’m the preschool assistant at Greenpoint Montessori. I’m from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and have lived in New York for a little over a year. I graduated from Temple University in 2019 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Shortly after graduating I moved to Brooklyn and began working at Greenpoint Montessori! I first learned about the Montessori education through my university studies, and am grateful to expand my knowledge each day from Kat, Mia, and the children. In my free time I enjoy exploring Brooklyn, thrifting, and hanging out with my dog PeeWee.
