If you’re ready to be surprised by what your child is capable of,
step into our world.

Our program is like a home-cooked meal: humble, thorough, sincere, and nourishing. Our classroom is a home itself; children feel safe and comfortable in our cozy apartment-turned classroom. It’s like grandma’s house, except there’s nothing they can’t touch.

We’re a small Montessori program nestled in the Greenpoint neighborhood. We run a humble program of 12 children ages 30 months - 5 years. Our staff-to-child ratio is 4:1 and our backyard has more than enough space for us to play, garden, climb, and relax under the shade of our Ailanthus tree. We’re people like you, and we spend our days nurturing your child’s innate desire to learn and discover the world.

Traditional Montessori led by down-to-earth people.

Conventional educational models claim that children will fall behind if left to their own devices. As Montessori educators, this kind of thinking raises more than an eyebrow. In our classroom, the children prove again and again that if we provide the right environment, they’ll step up and become the leader of their learning process.

In our program, your child will work at their own pace in uninterrupted time blocks. They’ll choose what materials to interact with and for how long. Every day, they’ll play and learn independently outside and then come inside for a home-cooked meal. They’ll spend 3 years in a multi-age classroom where they’ll learn from and teach others.

Year three in our program is a pivotal moment in your child’s life.

This is when they experience the responsibility that comes with being a leader for the first time in their lives. When they teach others, they gain confidence that is theirs to keep forever. And the emotional and mental skills they acquire when they become the oldest in their classroom will change their life.

In addition to self-led learning, our classroom values hands-on play, self-expression, a sense of community, and character building. And we love to walk off the beaten path and pick up the autoharp to sing a song, discuss the interconnectedness of life on our planet, or learn to identify different birds.

Meet Our Teachers

It takes a village. Ours is trained to guide your children through each day of learning, knowing when to step in and when to settle into the background.

Location

288 McGuiness is a wonderful place for Greenpoint Montessori. Every morning, teachers greet the children in the backyard then head on in to the classroom where the open layout is specially prepared for the children to learn and grow independently. We have child-height windows that look out to our community street and windows that look onto our big backyard. We are a short walk to the Greenpoint Ave G line. Please be aware that Greenpoint Montessori is located in a residential building with no commercial signage.
